Last week I had the pleasure of hosting the launch of A Change of Direction, the debut poetry collection by accountant-turned-poet Mark Howitt, at the Argyle Cellar Bar in Edinburgh.
Although I regularly host author events, this was my first time hosting a poetry book launch, and it was a great evening. Mark's collection, published by Ramsay Head Press in collaboration with Typewronger Books, is full of with humour and warmth and it made for a really interesting chat.
We covered everything from The Wombles and Oasis to Cockney rhyming slang and Oxfam shops, and the audience was brilliantly engaged throughout.
Many thanks to Mark for inviting me to be part of his big night, to everyone who came along to support the launch, and especially to Natalie, who gave a beautiful reading from the collection. I'm looking forward to seeing where Mark's writing takes him next, and to going to another poetry slam before too long.
